House of Assembly Hopeful Monitors Uyo Students Association Worldwide Elections

…Charges New Executives to Be More Intentional on Programmes That Boost Academic Excellence and Economic Value of Uyo Students

The candidate for the Uyo State Constituency seat in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly under the platform of the Allied People's Movement (APM), Comrade Ini-obong Uko, over the weekend attended and monitored the 2026 Uyo Students Association (USA) Worldwide National Election held at the Uyo Local Government Council Hall.

Comrade Uko, who also serves as the National Secretary of the National Association of University Students (NAUS) Stakeholders' Forum and is a prominent stakeholder of the Uyo Students Association, said his presence at the election was to observe the process and ensure that the exercise remained peaceful, transparent, free, and fair. He commended the Electoral Board, led by Comrade Abasifreke Essien, for conducting a credible election and applauded the maturity displayed by delegates and participants throughout the exercise.

Speaking shortly after the declaration of results, the House of Assembly hopeful congratulated the newly elected executives led by President-elect, Comrade Edet Kingsley Sunday, and charged them to prioritize programmes and policies that would enhance the academic, leadership, and economic development of students from Uyo Local Government Area. According to him, student leadership should go beyond organizing social activities and focus on initiatives that empower students through education, skills acquisition, entrepreneurship, mentorship, and career development opportunities.

Comrade Uko further commended the Executive Chairman of Uyo Local Government Area, Dr. Uwemedimo E. Udo, for sustaining the annual bursary scheme for students and for his commitment towards introducing project allowances for final-year students. He described the initiatives as strategic investments in human capital development and urged the newly elected leadership of the association to collaborate with relevant stakeholders and government institutions to advance the welfare and aspirations of Uyo students worldwide.

He reaffirmed his commitment to youth and student development, noting that students remain critical stakeholders in the development of society and must be supported through policies and programmes that prepare them for leadership, innovation, and economic productivity. He wished the new executives a successful tenure and expressed confidence in their ability to advance the vision and objectives of the association.
